Bicycle parts to improve, performance and riding comfort with bicycle accessories
Performance upgrades and improving rider comfort make up a large percentage of bicycle part sales. The most common performance upgrades are frames,
wheels,
tyres and
groupsets . Upgrading these parts can dramatically improve speed and stability, reduce weight, increase rider comfort, provide smoother gear shifting and improve braking performance. Other parts that can increase rider comfort are
stems and
handlebars and
handlebar tape .
Bicycle parts for safer cycling
Frames, wheels, tyres and brakes are the bicycle parts that most contribute to safer cycling. They can improve the bikes overall stability, grip on different surfaces and in varying weather conditions and enhance stopping power. Naturally these are not the only parts that can contribute to safer riding but they are the main ones. Other bike parts that contribute to safe cycling are the items that need to be replaced at regular intervals and during servicing.
Maintaining and repairing your bike
Gear and brake cables ,
chains and
cassettes, grips and handlebar tape,
brake pads and tyres should all be replaced at regular intervals; this is usually done as part of your bikes yearly servicing plan and will keep your bike running like the day you rode it off the showroom floor all year round.
Many cyclists tend to replace these bicycle parts when they break or stop working altogether with the idea that they are getting every last bit of use out of them but this is a false economy as worn parts tend to wear out the other parts around them faster as well.
Consider the following example. Your road bike missed it’s 6 month service where you normally have your brake pads replaced. The pads were damaged at the time but you did not notice. Over the next couple of months, the damaged brake pads rapidly wore down and gouged the braking surface on your wheel until one day the side of the rim wore down to the point where it cracked. Your wheel now needs to be replaced.
In this example, the cost of replacing the damaged brake pads including labour is around $40 and the cost of replacing your Shimano wheel is $280. A couple of months of neglect just cost you an extra $280
