Mud Guards

Mud guards, also known as fenders, help prevent water mud and dirt from flicking up over you as you ride along.

With the exception of touring bikes and cruisers, most bikes do not come with mud guards but instead are offered as an accessory. The reason for this is because in most places it is dry more days than it is wet and recreational riders tend to stay indoors when it is raining.

If you are not scared of the rain and are happy to venture out when it does but would rather not have a big muddy stripe up your back; attaching mud guards is a great idea. Companies like Topeak offer a range of Mudguards that can be easily attached and removed so they don’t need to be on your bike all year round. This type of option is relatively inexpensive and extremely effective.
